Sneak Peek New Microsoft Surface device emerges, will it beat the Apple hype?

On September 21, Microsoft will be holding an event in New York that will reportedly feature a series of new Surface devices. However, the question is to what extent this event will attract attention, given the also anticipated launch of the iPhone 15.

From a recent leak reported by Windows Latest, it was revealed that Microsoft has filed several listings with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) for “portable computing devices”. While details are still scant, it seems that the FCC ID used, which is C3K2067, indicates that this may be an affordable device, rather than a high-end one.

Windows Latest further explains that the “C3K” ID has previously been used by Microsoft for Surface Go devices, such as the Surface Go 3. While this is in the Surface Pro range, it retains some of the distinctive design elements of Microsoft’s premium products.

There are also hints from the code name that this FCC filing may be related to a Surface Laptop device. Since historically, Surface Laptop devices have also used the “C3K” ID, this may indicate the possible presence of a Surface Laptop Go 3 or Surface Go 4 in the near future.

It’s important to note that if this leak is true, and Microsoft is really planning a new Surface Go product launch on September 21, this would be a positive step. The high-end Surface Pro products that also serve as the best 2-in-1 laptops, are interesting. However, the affordable Surface Go line offers greater accessibility thanks to its more pocket-friendly price.

Many manufacturers, including Apple, tend to focus on premium products at high prices, while neglecting the budget market. Microsoft’s continued commitment to the Go line is therefore a positive. While it may not be as powerful as flagship products with the latest technology, its good build quality, adequate specifications, and affordable price make it appealing to many – especially those looking for the best student laptop.

However, amidst the high expectations of the iPhone 15, Microsoft also needs to introduce its flagship product. While a new phone launch from Microsoft might not make sense (especially after reports of the dual-screen Surface Duo ceasing production), Microsoft needs to make sure that its Surface products can steal the spotlight from the attention surrounding the new iPhone.

As such, Microsoft should go beyond the affordable Surface Go products, and also showcase the latest innovations from Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. Considering that a new MacBook launch this year is increasingly unlikely, this could be a golden opportunity for Microsoft to highlight their Surface product line – as long as they present it appropriately.
